Algorithmic Resolution of Singularities: Hauser's Kangaroos in positive Characteristic
Although Hironaka's proof of resolution of singularities only solves the question of existence of a desingularization in characteristic zero, it is, nevertheless, quite instructive to follow his approach in positive characteristic and study more closely, what arguments fail and why. In this context H.Hauser introduced the notion of kangaroo points about a decade ago. In my talk, I shall first explain Hauser's approach, and then continue his train of thought and combine it with observations of current computational experiments and first explanations for the observed behaviour.
