Models of curves over local fields: normalization and valuations

In explicit constructions of normal integral models of a smooth projective curve X, it is often important to compute the normalization of a (potentially non-normal) model of X. Even though general algorithms exist to compute the normalization of schemes of finite type, they might not be sufficiently efficient for some applications.
This talk explains how, over local fields, normal integral models of a curve X correspond to certain sets of discrete valuations of the function field of X, and how this leads to a different approach to the computation of such models.
